Robustel LTE Gateway M1200-4L
Robustel M1200-4L is a compact industrial LTE Cat-4 gateway that can operate either as a traditional modem or as a standalone intelligent gateway. In Bridge mode, it passes a public IP address via the serial port or mini-USB, enabling easy integration into existing systems without requiring any application changes.
Examples of M1200 use
- Smart Metering: In Bridge mode, the M1200-4L serves as a reliable mobile modem for data concentrator units (DCU). When switched to Gateway mode, it can directly read electricity meters via RS-485, convert Modbus RTU protocols to TCP, respond to alarms from digital inputs and outputs (DI/DO), and enable centralized management of all deployed gateways through the RCMS platform.
- Connecting industrial PLCs: In Bridge mode, the gateway transparently passes a public IP address to an existing router or control unit, enabling immediate integration without the need to change application settings. Gateway mode, on the other hand, provides direct support for transparent TCP/UDP communication and Modbus RTU/TCP protocol conversion for local devices.
- Connecting legacy serial devices: For vending machines, ticketing terminals, and other legacy devices, Bridge mode provides fast LTE connectivity with minimal changes to the existing configuration. Gateway mode extends functionality with protocol conversion, digital I/O status monitoring, secure remote access via RobustVPN, and complete monitoring in the RCMS system.
Advanced networking features and VPN
By switching to gateway mode, you gain connection backup using two SIM cards (Dual SIM), support for transparent TCP/UDP transmission, and Modbus RTU-TCP conversion. Data transmission security is ensured by a wide range of VPN protocols, including IPsec, OpenVPN, GRE, L2TP, and PPTP.
Industrial interfaces and management
The device offers RS-232/RS-485 serial interfaces, complemented by 2× digital input (DI) and 1× digital output (DO) for standard PLC and metering system workflows. Management can be performed via the web interface, CLI, or SMS commands. Large-scale operation and remote access are simplified by Robustel Cloud Manager Service (RCMS), which supports remote configuration and firmware updates, as well as the optional RobustVPN service.
Rugged design for field deployment
The gateway is designed for installation in control cabinets and demanding field environments. It supports a wide power input range of 9–36 V DC, operates reliably in extreme temperatures from −40 to +70 °C, and allows easy mounting on a DIN rail or on a wall.
